All about Volkswagen Cars

Volkswagen is one of the largest car manufacturer in the world. Its headquarters situated at Wolfsburg, Germany. It is pronounced as folksvagen which means "people car". It was also called with the name VW and V-Dub. The company started in early 1930s, the first car came out with the name Beetle which was designed by Ferdinand Porsche. There has been about 5 generations of the Volkswagen golf they are

1. First one is produced from 1974 to 1983 sold with the name Rabbit.
2. Second generation, with the name Golf hatcback/Jetta sedan produced from late 1983 to 1991.
3. Volkswagen has lunched its third generation Golf in 1991 and in the year 1992, it was voted as the European Car of the year.
4. Volkswagen's fourth generation lunched in 1997.
5. The current version of Volkswagen Golf was lunched in the year 2003 with the name FIat Panda and which has elected as the European Car for the year 2004.
6. The fifth generation Jetta, which is a performance version, the GLI and the GTI boasts a 2.0 L Turbocharged direct injection engine.

Volkswagen produces many number of vehicles with advanced features as well light duty diesel engine which is called TDI. Volkswagen also produces another main models called Polo, which smaller than the Golf, and also the larger Passat. By the year 2005, there have been four incarnations of the Polo they are as follows

• MK 1 [1976]
• MK 2 [1981to 1990]
• MK 3 [1994 to 1999]
• MK 4 [2002] which is the current version of Polo.
