More Information On Saab Car
Saab was founded in 1937 in Linkoping. It is an Aircraft and Automobile
concern based in Sweden. An Acronym for "Svenska Aeroplan AB", where "AB"
stands for "aktiebolaget" is Saab. The company originally manufacturing
airplanes, sought ways to diversify its business and started manufacturing
Saab Automobile in the late 1940s, based in Trollhatan. Saab 92001 was the
first car on june 20, 1947.Saab then ventured into the computer market with
Datasaab in the late 1950.
Subsidary of General Motors is AB. Half of Saab Automobile was bought by
General Motors in 1990, with an option to acquire the entire
company within decade. GM has shared its ownership of Saab Automobile
with investor AB, the main owner of Saab, before exercising that option.
In Russelsheim, Germany it was announced in march 2005 that GM would
move the production of the next generation Saab 9-3 from Trollhattan
to their Opel plant. Using 9 in the model numbers is the common feature of
Saab car types. The exception to this naming rule is the Saab 600,
which is a rebadged Lancia Delta. In Trollhattan, Sweden Current
Models are 9-3 and 9-5, both are manufactured .
The Saab 9-2X, is manufactured in japan and the Saab 9-7XSUV,
manufactured in the United States.
Saab created a TV advertisement called "Saab suite", in 1987.
All Modern Saabs have a floor-mounted ignition. In case of an
accident it believes this is a safer position. The driver's
knee often jerks upward in a collision. On the steering column
of many cars, the compact and ignition module has shattered many
kneecaps. When the key is turned to the 'lock' position, the
floor-mounted position yields more space allowing modern Saabs
to have a metal bar that rotates over and up into the ignition. This
makes Saabs very challenging to hotwire. The ignition is located
on the floor because, in the airplanes that inspired Saab automobiles,
the throttle controls were all located down on the floor.
To put turbochargers in mass production cars, Saab was the
first manufacturer. Saab introduced Automatic Performance
Control(APC) in 1980, and 16 valve turbocharged engine in 1983.
It pioneered direct ignition, which eliminates the distributer
and spark plug wires in 1985.
